We are one of 14 local workforce development areas in Virginia and part of a nationwide network of over 500 areas that seek to connect workforce talent with the business community to support a thriving economy. Created under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, our service footprint is home to over 1 million people and 38,000 employers, including the headquarters of seven Fortune 500 companies. We are fortunate to have a diverse and robust economy with over 614,000 people in the workforce. Our key industries of focus include advanced manufacturing, healthcare, logistics, and the professional, scientific and technical sector. Occupations in educational services, construction/trades, retail, hospitality, information technology and financial services are also in demand.  

It is in this context that our consortium of local elected officials (CLEO) and the business-led Workforce Development Board (WDB) share governance responsibility in shaping a policy and program framework that ensures the funds to which they are entrusted are strategically deployed to achieve maximum benefit for our job seekers and employers.
